Working From Home, in Paris

Today I saw the Eiffel Tower up close for the first time in the 3 1/2 weeks I've been in Paris. But I forgot the camera, so I don't have a photo. Oops.

I've been working full time since the day I landed, and haven't had a chance to get out and see much. I've wasted a good amount of time at the mobile phone store (actually, several of them; blog post to come on that), hit up the nearby supermarket regularly, checked out a market (two produce stands and generally pretty disappointing), and now spend an hour and a half 3 times a week with a French tutor at a Starbucks in Saint-Michel (where a tall coffee costs 2.40€).

But there have been some awesome highlights nonetheless, most importantly: FOOD
  • Bread, bread, bread, omg...bread.
  • Brie, camembert, brie, brie, gruyere
  • Saucisson Sec and Cornichons
  • Raclette (thanks Julien!)
  • Sandwiches on fresh baguettes with the best tasting mayo ever
  • Pains au chocolat
  • Homemade Bœuf Bourguignon
  • Rillettes du Lapin
  • Decent wine for 4-5€
  • Yummy Phở in Belleville
And also some places we've wandered around and stumbled across:

And a few photos...

  1. Mmmm... droool... French mayo is the best! Although you could probably just survive on Brie, wine and bread for months :p You must check out the Jardin du Luxembourg (when the weather is nice) - it's just across the river from the Pompidou off the Blvd. St-Michel.

  2. Mayo is so easy to make yourself ; egg yolk, oil, mustard, salt, pepper, a dash of vinegar... OK, mixing is tricky, maybe not so easy in the end, but you should try !

  3. I used to make mayo many years ago...the trick is to add ingredients slowly and use lowest speed on blender...
